Late this lest week I was working along-side the road when my feet got caught
up in a set of cable chains. I didn't fall down or anything, but I seem to have
facked-up my right knee. Really PISSES ME OFF!
I've lost 45 lbs since last October.... starting to see some improvements.....
just added squats into the mix, and seeing some changes in my leg developement,,,,,
DONE!

Okay, not done. I'm doing the ice/heat thing..... ibeuprofen.
Standing and walking are fine, it's just the leg bendy thing... squating, kneeling.
So leg training is out for a while........
Guess I'll just hit the upper body that much harder.

It's STILL a pisser though.....

Give it a week of rest, ice etc and then slowly add in some extensions (very light), give this a week and then add in some leg press (very light) give this a week, and then resume normal training if all goes well.

One thing though you can and should do is leg curls (laying and standing or seated) 4 sets of 2 exercises, as this exercise will help in strengthening your knee, and of course train calves.

I agree w/ps...take it slow and add gradually to your training program. Slowly work in "easy" streching (bending/flexing) for the knees as well.
Cable-chains...? DUDE! Are you a frickin' lumberJack now...?  Grin

Tire cable/chains, Jack.  Somebody lost some last winter.... and I found them!

The knee is doing better...... I was just thinking the worst, as my brother had to have his acl remodeled last year.

Haha! LOL! Sorry bro! Here in the midwest tire chains are disallowed these days. HELL! With The crappy mix of "crete and asphalt" that we use here on the roads/freeways... bare tires alone rip the roads to shit. (good luck w/that knee man...get strong bro!)

cool. staying in shape is a lifetime gig. don't rush it. i've been through numerous injuries of varying severity and so far have always come back. My current rehab project is trying to get my ability to squat with a free bar back. I have no delusions about squatting heavy again but my legs are better squatting 225 for twenty reps than they are leg pressing 4 x that much.... As of now, I preexhaust with lots of leg extensions, and last time my squat workout was 4 sets of 20 with 135. Still pathetic.  Burns like hell, though, so it's doing something and my lower back hasn't protested yet.

Well..... i tried some leg ext. and curls this week end.

Got a nice little pump w/light weights...... didm't seem to bother the knee!
So, I think I'll hit them a couple of times this week.... then
slowly start adding weight.  Then I will see about some squats in
a few more weeks!

Okay. Last week I went ahead and pre-exhausted my quads with leg extensions, moving right
into some light squats. Going to parellel didn't seem like something I wanted to do but I went
slow and easy. There was some snapping and popping sounds coming from inboard of my
kneecap, but no discomfort. 3 light sets, but adding weight each set.
Some standing leg curls and stiff leg deadlifts and I was done. The next 2 days I was pleasantly
sore.

This week pretty much the same thing, just added a little more weight. Again, plenty of sounds
..... but no discomfort. and a bit more sore than last week!
I guess I'll keep at it.... just adding a bit and slowly building back up!

Personally i don't do the so called "pre-exhaust" thingy. I do 2 at most warmup sets and then it's in your face riding the pyramid up and then down just a tad at the end.

Well, Jack....I'll clarify. I'm using the leg extensions AS my pre-exhaust before I hit the squats.
Generally, in the past, I'd warm up the knees with some light extensions and then start in on the squats (or leg press when I was going to a commercial gym) and come back to ext. to finnish off the thighs.

This week I tried front squats, and found some discomfort. I slipped a dime under my heels
and that seemed to help a little.... but the discomfort was there, you know, started.
I then did some regular squats and it seemed okay. No problems the next day, so I'll hold off on the front squats for awhile...... and when I do them, I'll remember the plate under the heels!

I think you shouldn't play with your knees that much.  Pain is not a sign of weakness, its a sign of something not working well.  Even though it seems you're doing better, you should have that knee checked-up.  Most knee SERIOUS problems could be avoided if people took the time to have their joints check BEFORE a real trauma happens...
