Hi guys & gals,

A gal mate of mine asked me yesterday about workouts she could do to assist with her ballet dancing (She goes to the Royal School of Ballet). She has said she wants to add strengh to her legs and her core. She's small and light so where I can suggest bodyweight squats, lunges etc and crunches leg raises I'm a little unsure what they would do with her light bodyweight.

What would you suggest she could do at home? She says there isn't a gym around her and I definately wouldn't want her walking around London at night to and from a gym so what is there she can do at home.

If I can help her with this she has promised to help me become more flexible Cheesy Wink

Sure its not for you! Whatever!

Since she is already in the Royal School of Ballet, she is practicing alot with her bodyweight, so you would want to add just a bit more weight to all her movements. It's a bit like adding the weight ring to a bat prior to going up to hit, you'll swing a bit with a heavier weight and once it comes time to do the swing it will seem much easier with a lighter weighted bat. You could have her hold onto an extra 5-10 lbs during all her functional movements she would do normally (or add a weighted vest/ankle or wrist weights) and have her do all her movements with them. You can also add in basic movmentst like bodyweight squats, lunges, plyometric jumps (on and off a bench) to help.

Thanks HC that's great... and it really isn't me!

Basically I could get her to buy some DBs and work with them, that'd be all the equipment to start with?

That's a great starting point and DBs are fairly inexpensive. But really we know it's for you and I'm sure that you look very masculine in your "tutu".....LOL!!
