Hello to all,
Everything is going good here.
I am in a groove, yet a rut. I've been lifting and throwing mad weight around. I decided to go heavy, with a new motto of go hard or go home. From deads to squats to every other exercise, I have been pushing it to the limit.. i.e. The groove
Now, the rut.. I have not dropped a single pound in weeks. I am still hovering around 294(ish). I know, like PS said, Get your azz off the scale." I am not judging my success off the scale, it's just at times I am having an internal battle with myself. At times I want to be a bodybuilder and be massive, but then again at times I just want to get lean.
I know you can get lean from weights/ cardio/ diet, all of which I have been doing okay with. On a scale from 1-10 I give my overall effort a 7. My diet isn't the strictest and I could push myself longer on the cardio, but that's the battle.
My goals are 225lb (lean) body-weight 34 inch waist 20 inch arms 54 inch chest solid 29-32 inch legs BF 9-13 %
I am now 294 (wide shoulders/ flabby mid section) 43 inch waist 23 in arms 60 in chest Unknown legs BF 29-35%
I know patients will be my key to success along with dieting and the other good stuff (cardio/ time/ weights) I also know my diet weaknesses, i.e. late eating, allot of diet root-beer soda, low fat- sugar free ice cream (1-2 xs a week). I also know my cardio weakness, i.e. on heavy weight training days I only complete 20-25 minutes of cardio (due to time restraints), perform cardio 2-3 days a week instead of 6 days (like I use to). Weight training is going great, feel stronger see more size/ fullness.
As stated the internal battle is kicking my butt.
I plan to incorporate sprints into my training. For example, sprint 20-25 yards, slow jog back to the starting point and do it again for like 20-25 reps (and increase when necessary).
As this battle goes on, I know I have to determine how to maintain size and strength while dropping. Quick story,
I got a buddy who also started in december at 340 and is now down to 269. He hits cardio 1 hour a day for 7 days a week with no/ little weight training. He's shaped like a bowling pin, narrow shoulders at the top and wide gut in the middle. SO although he weigh less I have a better physic, with wide shoulders/ back & a smaller waist.
I don't know man, 225 seems so close yet soooooo far away.
Any ideas or examples of a diet and cardio (length/ exercises) let me know. Also, do you think my goal obtainable for the year 2008, or should I just shoot for '09?

Ok first off your goal should be to get lean....PERIOD! Who gives a rats ass what you weigh? Look at it this way in contest shape and at my height of 5"10" I'm around 245-250 (last comp) and I have a naturally light frame. You on the other hand are built to be big, so even if you manage to get totally peeled I doubt that you'll ever be 225 (unless you amputate a leg!!), so instead of worrying about the scale and compairing yourself to others look instead to your accomplishments thus far, and you'll realize that you're doing just fine.
Now as for the diet instead of ice cream in the evening take a protein shake and put it into the freezer for an hour or two after dinner then when you want something sweet etc have the frozen shake. You'll get all the protein you'll need at this point plus none of the BS calories etc that the ice cream has to offer.
Oh and don't go to crazy with the heavy weights as great BBs are built from moderate weights, time under tension (higher reps), and solid concentration on the muscle being worked. Oh and anyone can toss around big numbers in the gym (ego training) but few have what it takes to train smart and build a great physique.

i'm going with p.s on this with the weights i used to just throw weights around going for 500lb+ dead and and squat and going mad on benching but never cardio cause i was too tired from lifting. now i'm on moderate weights i have the nrg for cardio and i'm losing weight much bloody faster. i've tried frozen protein, strawberry it bloody tasty!!! Though Ben and Jerries taste a bit better, lol.
push through cardio bro, that feeling of earning the body u WILL get makes it all worth it.

Thanks guys. PS, The protein is a great idea. The funny thing is I never even thought about doing that. (I got some banna protein at the house nw/ some strawbeeries too.) Also, I know numbers (Ilbs) don't matter. I don't judge my success (anymore) off the scale. As far as the weight, my only reason for being hyped off of the numbers was, as stated in pass post, that I never increased my weight previously pass 225 for +12 reps. Now, just seeing that I am cappable of going higher for +8 reps it made me feel a bit of accomplishment. Jugg, You are the man bro. Pushing over 500. But I will definately try the frozen protein.... I cant believe I never thought of that...

You are the man bro. Pushing over 500. But I will definately try the frozen protein.... I cant believe I never thought of that... Pulling 500,squatting near it, not yet benching. Frozen protein is goooood, on a nice hot day to have something frozen is good but knowing its good for you just puts a smile on your face while the others dig into the fatty crap. Its also my excuse not to buy chocolate icecream for my partner.

Sup guys, This week is a pretty busy week for me. However, I have been getting in at-least 30min on the elliptical and some weight training done. I am currently sitting at around 292-294 (ish) depending on the time of day and as usual my strength is through the roof. My wife got tired of my old clothes hanging off me, so she took me shopping. I went from a 52 in pants to a 44 in pants. I also went from a 5x shirt to a 3x sometimes 4x (for shoulder/arm room) shirt. So i am still going down in the mid section and I can honestly say that I am dropping weight in an appropriate way. I just got the invite to my 10 year school reunion, and man that time has went fast. I would like to show up around 250-260 (ish), in August... But I maybe thinking unrealistically. I know pounds doesnt matter, but size does. So if i could get to a 20/25 % bf I would be stoked. i remember doing the water chamber test when i was 245, and having a bf of 21.683% bf. I was strong and felt great. (refer to attached pictures) But those were the days and will be the days again as time goes on. So my new goals are:
250-260 (ish) 20-25% BF 40 inch waist 21 inch biceps 56 inch chest Most of all strong as hell with muscular/ cardiovascular endurance.
By August 1st, 2008. (3.5 months from now) 30lbs in 3.5 months= 10lbs per month= 2.31lbs per week. Is this do(able)? Okay holler back!!

Coney...you look great man. I remember the last time we trained together (1 year ago...??) you looked nothing like this! You've dropped alot of excess from your waistline...ALOT! Something in your diet is still causing you to hold a tad water though...? What is your "clean protien"/ carb/sodium ratio? You may need to go into Ketosis mode. Whereas you will burn all subcantanious fat (tissue) from your frame. This will for a time, call for a somewhat "limited/modified" diet. I really do not think that you would have any problems with this...as you already are balls to the wall! Maybe time fore a good EFA burner. Again...great job my man! jack.

Very important also... sometimes as we loose weight, we also loose a bit of power/strengtrh! (just as when we GAIN weight, we gain strenth). Just stay on track and don't confuse the issues with the facts! You will be fine. Keep it up! J.

IMO although you may have been somewhat lean in those old pics I truely believe that if you continue to work hard at this you will surpass that look by 8-10% bf and be WAY bigger/muscular.

Hello All,
This has been one crazy month. My weight is a solid 292, 290 (ish). I have alot of bf, but still moving forward towards my goal. I feel good and strong, however, my joints are nagging me. I just started back up on the fish oil and gelatin supps to help with that. Also I am taking two weeks off from weight training due to me beginning my internship and taking vacation. This week was hard and I did deviate far from my diet.. (the F word) Yup, fast food. But I'll be back on track soon
The other day I found myself running on the treadmill with no problem. I wasn't winded by any means, however my joint pains became unbearable after about 25 minutes of interval 40-60 training.
I am just overall exhausted from school work and home life. I am really looking forward to this vacation.
