During my contest prep I ordered some DVD's from Hardcore to keep me sane and motivated while doing awful cardio:
Ronnie Coleman 'Relentless' I have to say that I enjoy Ronnie's videos more than any others. He always seems upbeat when he's training, cracking jokes and shouting his famous catchphrases. It's obvious he just plain loves training - which isn't quite as apparent in many other bodybuilding videos. Plus he's doing ridiculous weights for high reps, which is always entertaining. The only knock on this one is the endless scenes of Ronnie preparing and eating his food, and dining at the same restaurants, every day - it gets pretty monotonous. I don't understand why Mits insists on showing every meal, every day, especially when he eats the same thing every day! What I'd really like to see is a DVD that shows his entire week's training. He hits every bodypart twice a week with two different workouts for each. Every Ronnie vid shows only one workout per body part, so you only get half his weekly training per DVD. I think most people would find that far more interesting than watching Ronnie scarfing chicken at the Outback umpteen times.
Ronnie Coleman 'Unbelievable' Probably the most famous bodybuilding video there is, and my personal favourite. Everyone here probably has it in one form or another. The DVD is a good upgrade from the VHS tape, everything is much clearer and crisper. There's no additional footage or anything, which would have been nice, but it's still well worth it to get the DVD IMO. Especially at Hardcore's prices.
Phil Heath 'The Gift: A New Beginning' I think Phil, along with Dennis Wolf, is the best new pro to come along in ages. Personally I thought he got robbed at the Arnold - he may have given up some size to the others in the top five, but his conditioning and aesthetics are unparalleled. This DVD is a nice introduction to Phil, and he comes across as a genuine, humble guy. He doesn't lift the heaviest but he obviously knows what he's doing, his arms, quads and calfs are just phenomenal, and his triceps may already be the best ever - his potential is scary. A nice touch on this DVD is the footage from his first pro show, the Colorado Pro, which of course he won. His routine and comparisons are included. Plus you get to see where he gets free chicken!
Battle for the Olympia 2005 & 2006 I love the BFTO series, you get to see a bunch of guys doing their Olympia prep workouts in the last couple of weeks before the show, so everyone is in great condition. Plus you get a little insight, like Gunter's segment in 2006. Charles Glass said he looked amazing before the show (where he placed a disappointing tenth), but to me he looks about three weeks out at three days out. The BFTO series also offers great value for the money- each set is three DVDs, the 2005 edition is NINE hours long, and 2006 must be eight or more. Plus the 2005 disc has the Olympia pre-judging. The only thing I didn`t like about the 2006 disc was that none of the 15 bodybuilders did legs! Slackers. Just kidding!
