Is one weeks rest really necessary?
If I train the same body part 2 times a week am I giving the muscles enough time to rest and re-build?
By two times a week I mean with 3-4days of not targeting that body part.

Everybody responds differently. My training split has me hitting a body part twice in one week on every third week. I go with that because after years of lifting I found it works best for me.

I fully agree as each of us have our own specific genetics, but one also must remember that it's impossible to isolate any one bodypart over another and as such there is quite a bit of "spill over" from one bodypart to another.

I understand what you mean, for example back and biceps.. chest and triceps..
Legs are what can be isolated best. I guess I will just see how I feel and look at my results..

Thanks

I hit one body part per week and lay off completely for 2 weeks every 12 weeks.

I find it takes me a few days for each part to recover fully

if you squat then your back, chest, delts, abs also get a solid workout just keeping the bar and weight balanced.

Abs can be worked very often though. For me I take 5-6 days rest between triceps, biceps, and delts depending on if I feel that they are well rested or not. Forearms I train everyday, abs every three days. For me, my back and legs take a bit more time to fully recover.

Good point ps. I should have been more specific. The way I rotate my workouts leads to a certain workout being performed twice in a week every third week. That particular workout is also followed by two days off so I get some rest after it.

I'm glad you mentioned that!
